Jack Mercer

Jack Eldon Mercer of Miami, OK passed from this life Friday, April 1, 2022 at his home. He was 89.

Jack was born December 13, 1932 east of Miami, OK in Ottawa County to Fred and Hattie (Hollis) Mercer. He had lived in the Miami area most of his life.

He was a carpenter, working for Bob Buxton Construction for 25 years and then for Miami Housing Authority until his retirement.








Jack served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Miami where he served as a deacon for over 50 years and taught Sunday School. He built the current sanctuary at First Freewill Baptist Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 147 in Miami.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Joe Mercer, Bob Mercer and George Mercer and 3 sisters, Geneva Pantier, Wanda Carey and Virgie Newcomb.

Jack married Donna Hallman on May 28, 1955 and she survives of the home. He is also survived by his son, Randy Mercer and his wife Donna of Miami, OK, his daughter, Yvonne Berry and her husband Joe of Miami, OK, 1 brother, Denny Mercer of Commerce, OK, 1 sister, Gaylene Miller of Joplin, MO, 3 grandchildren, MaRanda McCormick and her husband Seth, Natasha Barnes and her husband Bucky and Jacob Berry and his wife Jessica and 4 great-grandchildren, Clay McCormick, Chase McCormick, Maddison Barnes and Bryce Barnes.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April5, 2022 at First Freewill Baptist Church in Miami, OK with Rev. Steve Kropp and Rev. Jacob Berry officiating. Interment will follow in Ottawa Indian Cemetery, southeast of Miami, OK with Seth McCormick, Clay McCormick, Chase McCormick, Bucky Barnes, Bryce Barnes and Brook Still serving as pallbearers. Steve Hallett will serve as a honorary pallbearer. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Funeral Detail. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK.
