(From Parker Mortuary)Charles Robertson III of Joplin passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the age 69. He was a man of many names, using Robbie, Bob, and Bobby.
Robbie was born May 3, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri, son of the late Charles Robertson II and Margarette (Rogers) Robertson. The family moved here from California and he graduated from Seneca High School.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie (Santee) Robertson whom he married July 29, 1978. His sons, Rusty Robertson and wife Lacey of Joplin, and Keith Robertson of Omaha, Nebraska. Two daughters, Holly Jo Robertson of Joplin, and Michelle Ryan and husband Caleb of St. Louis, Missouri. His triplet grandchildren, Ryan Robertson, Tyler Robertson, and Emily Robertson all of Joplin. Brothers Ron Robertson and wife Vicki of Kansas City, Roger Robertson and wife Gloria of Seneca, one sister Susan Boyer and husband Waymeth of Seneca, and several nieces and nephews
He worked for King Press Corporation before opening and operating Robertson Equipment Company. Robbie later acquired King Press. The company re-manufactured and installed printing presses. This allowed him to travel the world, visiting six continents.
Robbie was Scout Leader of Troop 39 for 20 years, Many boys, including his sons, achieved the rank of Eagle, Robbie loved the outdoors and the troop was active in hiking, backpacking, and caving. The troop often hiked the Grand Canyon, once achieving rim to rim to rim. They climbed and skied the mountains of Colorado. Biking was a favorite adventure. They enjoyed frequent local rides and trips along the Katy Trail in Missouri and Big Bend State Park in Texas. Water activities included trips to Pensacola and canoeing Boundary Waters.
He enjoyed these same activities with family and friends. Hiking the Grand Canyon, Sequoia National Park, and a glacier in Alaska. With his young sons he explored the Amazon Jungle. Robbie climbed over 50 of the mountains in Colorado. Outside the United States he climbed the Stone Lady, a fourteen story Mayan ruin in Belize, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and walked the Great Wall of China, plus many other adventures.. Although he wanted to ride camels in Dubai, he was only allowed to watch Camel Races. The grandchildren joined him in his adventures at an early age. Biking Saturdays on the Frisco Trail, Razorback Trail, and Slaughter Pin and hiking local trails.
With his friend, Ken Gentry, he climbed Devil's Tower in Wyoming and hiked the mountains of Chile. Biking along the Natchez Trail was practice for their longest ride. Starting in Mexico, they rode their bicycles through the United States and crossed the Canadian border.
Although his adventures have ended, many more have begun through the lives he touched. He will be missed by many.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 23. Details will be announced later.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
We are so sorry to hear of Robbie’s passing. He was a jewel to the many Boy Scouts he lead over the years. Our son, Frankie, was so proud to have worked with him on his adventures and will cherish those memories for his life time.
