Becky Melin

Rebecca “Becky” K. Melin, 83, Reeds, MO, passed away peacefully, Monday, December 5, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO. Rebecca Kathleen Oldham was born August 18, 1933 in Carthage, a daughter of the late Earnest Oldham and Hattie Johnson Oldham. She was a graduate of Hood River High School, Hood River, OR, Class of 1951 and attended the Multhomah School of the Bible, Hood River, for two years. Becky was married to Paul Kilpatrick for 25 years. She later married John Melin and they were married for 21 years. Becky was a member of the Avilla Methodist Church.

Becky was a farm wife, working hard on the farm and also as a Secretary/Bookkeeper. She was employed by Putnam and Jones, Broadview Lumber, H.E. Williams and in her later years, Oxford Healthcare. She also assisted her daughter and son-in-law with their greenhouse in Marshfield. Becky enjoyed gospel and bluegrass music, flower gardening, quilting, helping her friends and neighbors, and making blankets for Project Linus and Newborns in Need.

Survivors include; Nancy (John) Young, Reeds, MO, Tina (Doug) Knight, Marshfield, MO, and Bruce (Gina) Kilpatrick, Reeds, MO. Surviving step-children include; Marva (Mike) Endicott, Reeds, MO, Brenda (Harold) Noirfalise, Piedmont, MO, and Mike (Sherrel) Melin, Carl Junction, MO; one sister Caryl Lewis, Sarcoxie, MO; and eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Kilpatrick, in 1997 and two brothers Mack Oldham, who died in World War II and W.A. Oldham.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Dudman Springs Cemetery, SE of Carthage. Kellie Peterson and minister, Bob Wynne will officiate. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Avilla Methodist Church, Mayo Clinic or Compassion International in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W. Chestnut, Carthage, MO.
