Virginia McDaniel

Lela Virginia McDaniel, 96, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday morning, December 25, 2016, at Concordia Nursing and Rehab Center in Bella Vista, Arkansas, after a lengthy illness.

Virginia entered this life on June 28, 1920, in Stella, Missouri, born to the union of the late Joseph Charles and Itla (Francisco) Wasson. She was born, raised and attended school in rural McDonald County Missouri. She graduated from the University of Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri. She resided in Independence, Missouri for the majority of her life. She was employed by the Missouri Division of Family Services for thirty-three years, retiring in 1986 as supervisor. In September of 2005, she moved to Joplin, Missouri, to be closer to family. She enjoyed traveling, sewing and was involved in various women’s organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Willard and Victor Wasson; a sister, Lucille Wasson; a nephew, Ronnie Wasson; and her companion of twenty-eight years, Ron Craig.

Virginia is survived by her sister in-law, Mary Wasson of Stella, Missouri; six nieces and nephews, Vicki Fields and husband, Ed, of Goodman, Missouri, John Wasson and wife, Deborah, of Stella, Missouri, Linda Brown and husband, John, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Pam Hill and husband, Lonnie, of Neosho, Missouri, Evalyn Loyd and husband, Dale, of Neosho, Missouri and Sarah Gilbert and husband, Kurt, of Neosho, Missouri; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon, December 29, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. Burial will follow in the McNatt Cemetery near Goodman, Missouri. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
