Viola J. Mayfield, age 90, of Carthage, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Carthage. Viola was born on August 2, 1926 to Francis and Mabel Elder in Waynoka, Oklahoma before moving to Carthage, where she lived until entering St. Luke’s Nursing Home.
Viola attended Grand Avenue Church in Carthage most of her life. She was the church secretary for over 20 years. She also worked at H.E. Williams, Flex-O-Lators and Big Smith. She was employed at Big Smith for over 20 years and was a supervisor until its closing. She loved her church family and had many friends, both at church and her work. Viola is survived by one son, David Mayfield and wife Brenda of Carthage and one brother, Floyd Elder of Springfield, three grandsons: Eric Mayfield and wife Brenda of Carthage, Gene Mayfield and wife Shelly of Carthage, Tony Mayfield and wife Emily of Sarcoxie.
Viola is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Michael Mayfield, Chelsea Mayfield, Tiffany Mayfield, Jackie Mayfield, Gabriel Mayfield and Elisha Faith Mayfield and one step-great grandson, Rhob Volana.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 27th at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 26th at Ulmer Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.
