Marvin Howard

Marvin Clarence Howard, age 83 of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away, surrounded by family, on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Freeman Hospital following an extended illness.

Marvin was born on July 2, 1933 in Webb City, Missouri to the late Joe C. Howard and Nellie P. Leggett Howard. Marvin served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He received his degree in Marketing from Kansas Teacher's College in Pittsburg in 1961 and went to work for Rocketdyne in Neosho. Marvin retired from the Kansas Ammunition Plant as an accountant after 20 years of service. During his younger years, Marvin refereed many high school football games and loved to coach and managed little league baseball.

Marvin was a member of the Pittsburg American Legion Post 64 and the Pittsburg Masonic Lodge #187. He also attended services with the Church of Nazarene.

On May 17, 1958, Marvin married Norma Jean Snyder in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2013.

Surviving Marvin are a son, Michael Howard and wife, Penny of Carl Junction; daughters, Kelly Borden and husband, Joe of Pittsburg, Kansas, Pamela Heide and husband, Scott of Medfield, Massachusetts, Stacy Coutu and husband, Erik of Pass Christian, Mississippi; seven grandchildren, Megan Stover and husband, Ricky, Brett Howard, Ryan, Shawn and Taylor Heide and Brooke and Addyson Coutu; brother, William F. Howard of Alba, Missouri; sisters, Ethel Ivy and husband, Paul of Webb City and Catherine Jackson of Reeds Spring, Missouri.

Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, January 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, north of Joplin with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
