Edward C. 'Ed' Zengel, age 76, Joplin, passed away at 1:33 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital.
Ed was born September 9, 1940 in Granite City, Illinois to the late Charles Zengel and Helen Veres Zengel and had lived in Joplin since 1959.
Ed was drafted out of high school by the Cincinnati Reds and played two years in their Class D program. He worked thirty years as an electrician with the IBEW, retiring in 1982. Following retirement, he went to work for J. Vangel Electric for fifteen years. Ed was a talented woodworker and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He played golf and was a regular at the fast pitch softball fields. In later years, Ed spent his time enjoying the company of his family and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He will be missed by all that knew him.
He married Margaret Bourassa on July 7, 1979 in Joplin. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include his children, Carmen McPherson and husband, Judd, Carl Junction, Stacey Zengel and wife, Carrie, Springfield, Ryan Zengel and wife, Jodi, Joplin, Stacy Stephens and wife, Lacey, Pea Ridge, Arkansas; grandchildren, Devyn, Hunter and wife, Daniella, Brenlee, Austin, Jessica, Meghan, Matthew, Olivia, Aidan; and great grandchildren, Quincy, Jayda and Ellie.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Zengel.
Memorial services are planned for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, in care of Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
