Jo Anne Wilson

Jo Anne Pitts Wilson, 81, Carthage, MO, passed away Monday evening, December 26, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO. Jo Anne was born July 13, 1935 in Scott, AR to the late Homer “Jack” Pitts and Annis (Farrer) Pitts. She attended high school in Arkansas. On December 25, 1953, she married William H. Wilson in Hot Springs, AR; he preceded her in death on November 7, 2012.

She was a born again Christian and a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and for many years served as church treasurer. Jo Anne served 8 years on the Carthage City Council, and was mayor pro tem for two years. She was a member of the Rhoda Fairchild Chapter DAR. She worked as Deputy Tax Assessor for Jasper County for many years.

Survivors include one son, Joseph “Skip” Wilson (wife Luanne), Carthage, MO; two grandsons, Jonathan Wilson (husband Armando), St. Louis, MO, and Kirby Wald, Carthage, MO; one granddaughter, Kim Smith, Carthage, MO; one great granddaughter, Rylee Wald; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, one son, William “Bud” J. Wilson, two brothers, Jay Pitts and William Pitts, and one sister, Dorothy Pitts Young.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2017 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Carthage, MO. Ministers Johnny Brewster and Danny Young will officiate.
