Mamie V. Haskins, 103, Carthage, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Quaker Hill Nursing Home, Baxter Springs, KS. Mamie Velma Haskins was born May 18, 1913 in Everton, MO to the late Alonzo L. Haskins and Tina Louise (Estes) Haskins. She worked as a fry cook for Red’s Café, C&W Café, and then worked for Boots Motel, Carthage. She was a Rosie the Riveter during WWII and in 2012; Mamie was named the Marty Hegarty Attitude Toward Life Award winner at the 62nd Annual Convention and Trade Show.
Survivors include a niece, Jeanne Cobaugh (husband Jerry), Carthage, MO; one sister, Gertrude Fern Ralston, Neosho, MO; one brother, Charles L. Haskins, Pasco, WA; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Jesse J. Haskins, Claude L. Haskins, John B. Haskins, and William F. Haskins, and one sister, Edith M. Downey.
Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2016 at Knell Mortuary. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Dustin Ledford, Carthage Nazarene Church, will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
