Norma Jean Lemmons, age 95 of Joplin, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 in Joplin following an extended illness.
Jean was born on March 28, 1921 in Joplin to the late Frank Whitley and Alta Williams Whitley. She graduated from Joplin High School. Jean was a Supervisor for other phone operators with Hale-Groves in Florida. During WWII, Jean worked for Firestone Tire, making tires for the military jeeps. She and her sister, Lois, volunteered for many years with St. John's Hospital in Joplin. Jean was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Joplin.
Surviving Jean, a sister, Lois Tabler of Joplin; nephews, Kerry Tabler, Randy Tabler and wife, Holly, Richard Miller, Jeff Tabler and Jeremy Tabler, Todd Paul; nieces, Marilyn Nemeth, Olivia Tabler, Ruthie Tabler, Robin Paul and Jill Lacy.
Other than her parents, Jean was preceded in death by sisters, Doris Ford, Ruth Davies and Esther Miller; brothers, Carl J. Whitley and Jack Whitley; one niece, Carol Sue Simontacchi.
Graveside services are planned for Thursday, December 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the mortuary, prior to services.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
