Izzy Hulfeld

Isabelle “Izzy” D. Hulfeld, 61, Carthage, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016 at her home after a lengthy illness. Isabelle Dee Saavedra was born January 31, 1955 in Ft. Riley, Kansas; the daughter of the late Antonio Saavedra and Virginia Francisco Saavedra. She was a 1973 graduate of St. Xavier High School, Junction City, KS and received her certified dental assistant degree from Emporia State College, Emporia, KS. Izzy married Dr. Keith Hulfeld on July 21, 1979 in Junction City; he survives.

Izzy was the office manager for Hulfeld Dentistry, Carthage. During their nearly 40 year marriage, Izzy enjoyed spending her summers with Keith, Tony, and her family and friends at Table Rock Lake. During retirement she and Keith began to travel in their motorhome all across the country. They enjoyed spending their winters in California and Arizona traveling with friends. During their time together, Izzy was able to travel to around and outside the country with her husband Keith, and son Tony, as well as all her friends. Izzy had been a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Dogwood Garden Club, Women's Service League of Carthage, she also had served on the St. Ann's Parish Council, and was involved with the PCCW at St. Ann's. Over the years she spent her time volunteering with the Knights of Columbus, St. Ann's School and Church, and other causes in the Carthage community.

Additional survivors include a son, Tony Hulfeld, Joplin and a brother, Raul (Donna) Saavedra, Lincoln, Nebraska.

A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM, Thursday, December 29 at the Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Fr. John Friedel will preside. A visitation will follow at 6:30 PM. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, December 30 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Carthage. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. Ann’s School, Joplin Area Catholic Schools or the American Cancer Society in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W. Chestnut, Carthage, MO., 64836.
