Patricia L. 'Pat' Bhend, age 73, Joplin, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Mercy Hospital.
Pat was born October 21, 1943 in Long Beach, California to the late William Merrow and Catherine Louise Thompson Merrow and had lived in Joplin most of her life.
A graduate of Washington University, she worked as a registered nurse in the oncology department at the former St. John's Regional Medical Center for over 20 years. Pat was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church and was an avid quilter, sewer and reader.
She married Dr. David Bhend on October 30, 1965 in Marion, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1990.
Survivors include her three sons, Ernest Bhend and his wife, Kristine, Joplin, Jonathan Bhend and his wife, Pam, Joplin, Carl Bhend and his wife, Kristin, Biloxi, Mississippi; a sister, Sue Dorris and husband, Harold, Paducah, Kentucky; two brothers, Tom Merrow and wife, Cynthia, Redding, California, William Merrow and wife, Dianna, Marion, Illinois and grandchildren, Maddi, Meredith, David, James, Noah, Lauren, Aaron and Ethan.
Memorial services are planned for Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Frank Sierra will officiate. The family will receive friends following the services in the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Relay for Life, in care of Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
