Eileen Swab

(From Parker Mortuary)

Bonnie Eileen (Scott) Swab passed into heaven on Dec. 19, 2016, at the age of 89. Eileen was one born in Prosperity, MO to Raymond and Leona Scott. (Her siblings, Doris Scott Devers and Melvin Scott, preceded her in death.) For a short time, Eileen and her family lived in Evanston, Indiana, where she graduated from high school. Afterwards the family moved back to the Joplin area where she attended Joplin Jr. College and met her future husband, John M. Swab Jr., to whom she was married for 65 years. Together Eileen and John had 6 children: Jana (Swab) Collard; Tommy Swab (deceased); John C. Swab; Diane (Swab) Thomas; Mark Swab; and Celia Swab. Eileen and John were also blessed to have 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

For 45 years, Eileen and John owned and operated John’s IGA grocery store on North Main Street in Joplin. After “retiring” they opened a smaller, neighborhood store simply called John’s Market, where they worked together for 12 years. But the two areas of life that occupied most of Eileen’s time and energy were taking care of others (her parents, her siblings, her children and extended family members as well as her husband) and serving as a dedicated Adult Sunday School teacher at Duenweg Baptist Church where she was a member for 79 years. Eileen was a hardworking, tenacious person with a witty sense of humor whose presence will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Duenweg Baptist Church in care of Parker Mortuary.

Funeral services are planned for Thursday, December 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary, Joplin. Family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 p.m. up to service time.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
