(From Parker Mortuary)Helen Leota Curran, age 88, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at a local nursing home.
Helen was born February 4, 1935 in Joplin, to the late Curtis Howerton and Roxie (Adkins) Howerton-Stites. She was a lifelong resident of Joplin who enjoyed a career as a meat cutter and wrapper at several area grocers. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a strong Christian woman who enjoyed sharing her knowledge with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and welcomed any and all to share at her table.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Don C. Curran, who passed away July 14, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis Curran, a daughter, Jeannie Hinkley; brothers, Junior, Bobby, and Ivan Howerton; sisters, Lillian Williams, Margaret Cares; and a very special sister-in-law Judy Howerton.
Survivors include her children: Wesley Curran and wife, Sharon, of Joplin, Donna Peterson-Taylor and husband, David, of Joplin, Troy Curran and wife, Karen, of Galena; grandchildren, Lois Rohr (Mark), Ryan Peterson (Lacey), Christi Hogelin, (Jim) Levi Jordan, Shawn Hinkley, Chris Faulkner, Jeremy Gilbert, Joshua Curran and Rose Curran; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith Price of Joplin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Glenda Sue Henson (niece) officiating.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Monday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
