(From Ulmer Funeral Home)Janet Marie Lewis, 68, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023, in Carthage, Missouri. Janet was born May 20, 1954, in Fort Benning, Georgia to Arthur C. Hancock and Mary Rose Heimann. Janet moved from California to Carthage in 1974.
She was a longtime employee of Justin Boots and was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Carthage.
Janet fought a tough battle for the past 25 years with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Her grandkids were her world. Janet was very active in her younger days in basketball, tennis, and water skiing.
Janet was united in marriage to Charles F. Lewis October 19, 1974, in Carthage; he survives.
Janet is survived by her husband, Charles Lewis; one daughter, Stephanie Marie Lewis (Brian Raines) of Joplin, Missouri; one son, Scotty Lewis (Patty) of Carthage; one brother, David Hancock of Springfield, Missouri; four sisters, Mary Ann Yeamans of St. Louis, Missouri, Susan King of Springfield, Missouri, Nancy Snyder, and Angela Hough of Lebanon, Missouri; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Mackenzie Wood (Gannon), Allison Medley Lewis, Rylee Paige Lewis, and Avery Jade Lewis; and two great grandchildren, Bentlee Dean Wood and Braxton Layne Wood.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mary Hancock; and a sister, Carol Merrill.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri.
