(From Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home)Kayna Kay Sims, age 85, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born October 10, 1937, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Katheryn (Snyder) Young.
Kayna was a 1955 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and received her bachelor's degree from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. She was a homemaker and loved to read and go to the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library in Mt. Vernon.
On October 10, 1972, she married Robert Sims in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1998.
Kayna is survived by two daughters, Mary Chitwood and her husband, William, and Kim Austin, all of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Kayna was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Katheryn; husband, William; son, Phillip Powell and son-in-law, Joseph Austin.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Vernon. Online condolences may be shared at www.FossettMosherFuneralHome.com.
