(From Parker Mortuary)Joe T. Downing, age 78, of Joplin, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 at his home.
Joe, son of the late William “Bill” and Irene (White) Downing, was born on September 9, 1944 in Jasper County. He grew up and attended school in Joplin, where he was active with the Eagle Scouts and later graduated from Joplin High School.
He was previously married to the mother of his two children, Gloria Colvin, and together they owned and operated Downing Glass and Downing Innovation Inc. Outlaw Trucks, where they customized and rebuilt dually trucks.
Several years later, Joe owned and operated MJ Motors in Joplin until his retirement. He was an avid boater and fisherman who enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the lake.
Survivors include his children, Justin Downing, of Carthage, and Troby Thompson, of Joplin; one grandson, Trevor Thompson, and his wife, Katherine, of Dallas, TX.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 beginning at 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
