Barbara Carder

Barbara Sue Carder, age 77, passed away at her home after a short but courageous battle with thyroid cancer on July 14, 2016.

She was born on December 24, 1938 in Baxter Springs, KS to Cleo & Velma (Berry) Day. She attended a one room school house at Tennessee Prairie before graduating from Baxter Springs High School in 1956. She married her childhood sweetheart, John, on December 28, 1956 and together they have one daughter. Barbara was an avid coffee drinker, reader, and animal lover. She served on the Johnson Public Library board and was a member of their book club. Barbara loved living in the country, especially the farm she shared with John for over 20 years. There she and John adopted many rescue animals, with her favorite dog breed being Yorkshire Terriers.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Velma Day; her sister, Rosalee Stephens; and her brothers, Matt and Glen Day.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Carder, of Baxter Springs, KS; one daughter, Belinda King & husband Larry of Baxter Springs, KS; two grandchildren, Paige Barker and husband Matt of Loma Linda, MO and Jonathan King and wife Trista of Riverton, KS; two great grandchildren, Emma and Caleb; her brother Donald Day & wife Jean of Grants, New Mexico and numerous nieces & nephews whom she loved dearly.

Memorial visitation will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2016 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Barbara has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for cremation. In lieu of flowers, it was Barbara’s wish that donations be made to the Joplin Humane Society and the Johnson Public Library in Baxter Springs, KS.
