(From Daniel Funeral Home)
Billy M. Windes, age 80, of Lamar, Missouri passed away early Saturday morning, July 2, 2016 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage.
Billy was born July 25, 1935, in Lockwood, Missouri, the only son and youngest child of Percy and Dora (Wooldridge) Windes. On November 19, 1956, in Nevada, Missouri, he married Shirley Lathrop and they had shared 49 years before her passing December 9, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Betty Harrell, Dixie Montgomery, and Ruth Glenn.
Survivors include a son, Rick (Pam Wineinger) Windes, and a daughter, Lori Windes, all of Lamar; two sisters, Rose Wolfe, Golden City, and Virginia (Wayne) Beeson, Hobbs, New Mexico; several nephews and nieces; and a host of friends.
With natural woodworking ability, a wealth of knowledge about lumber and construction, and a genuine desire to help others, Billy was perfectly suited for his 22-year career as assistant manager of Community Lumber in Lamar. When the lumberyard closed, he worked for O’Sullivan Industries for 18 years. Billy was a gifted wood artist who derived much pleasure from sharing finished projects with family and friends. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing, especially if it meant spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 6th at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following a Masonic Service that will begin at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions are suggested to Barton County Senior Center in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
