Carl LeRoy Flenniken, age 85 of rural Carthage passed away July 9, 2016.
He was born July 21, 1930 to Lynn Flenniken and Hattie Sunderland Flenniken on the family farm near Maple Grove, Missouri. Carl graduated from Golden City High School Class of 1949. He served in the United States Navy for 3 years, 11 months, and 12 days, during the Korean conflict. That was the only time he was not working on the family farm. Carl was a lifetime farmer, he dairy farmed until 1997 and raised beef cattle.
Carl was united in marriage to Shirley Violet (Baker) March 5, 1954 in Jasper, Missouri, she survives. Carl is survived by 5 children, Jerry Flenniken and wife Nancy of Jasper, Doug Flenniken and wife Carla of Carthage, Greg Flenniken and wife Patricia of Georgetown, Texas, Roger Flenniken and wife Vickie of Carthage and Sherry Evans and husband Lonnie of Carthage, 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, one sister Verna Mae Wilson of Golden City and one brother Dale Flenniken and his wife Karalyle of Jasper. Carl is preceded by his parents and one sister Lois Davis. He loved his family and to be with his family, friends and neighbors, he was known for his orneriness.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday July 14, 2016 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday July 13, 2016 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fasken Cemetery east of Carthage. Contributions can be made to Fasken Cemetery in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.ulmerfh.com.
