Jim Carrell

James “Jim” Franklin, Carrell, 90, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016 at 6:37 pm at Labette Health ion Parsons, KS after an illness.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 19 at 2:00 pm at the Derfelt funeral Home in Oswego. Pastor Roger Daniels will officiate. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the funeral time.

He was born to Albert and Cora Carrell on Oct 7, 1925 at their home in Hallowell, KS.

He married Phyllis Palmer on March 17, 1945 at the Columbus (KS) Courthouse. The couple had one daughter, Linda.

Jim grew up on a farm north of Oswego, and helped work on the family farm. He worked for Karns Feed Mill, Gerhart’s Lumber, Oswego; Montgomery Ward salesman; truck driver for Graves Trucking Line’ owned an auto body/camper sales; built several houses and a motel in Grove, OK; owned an excavator business with dump trucks, ran bulldozers; worked for General Motors assembly plant in Michigan. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling to Rio Hondo, TX for the winter; various volunteer work at church – taught Sunday School, song leader, bus ministry, visitation, deacon and was a member of the Assembly of God. In his younger years he enjoyed learning to play steel guitar and harmonica.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of the home; a daughter and husband, Linda and Dale Coble, Wichita; three brothers, Jessie and wife, Mary Carrell, Chetopa, KS, Herb Carrell, Harrison, Michigan, and Charles Carrell, Clearwater, KS; a grandson, Rick and wife Theresa Coble, Wichita,; a granddaughter, Brenda McMallow, Cheney, KS; three sisters-in-law, Rena Russell and husband Jim, Oswego, Mona Rathmel, and husband, Bud, Dallas, TX, and Lola Palmer, Joplin, MO; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death besides his parents, four brothers and six sisters.
