Rose Marie Wydick

Rose Marie Wydick, 70 of Weir, died at home due to complications of a stroke she suffered on April 3, 2014. 

She was born on October 3, 1945 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Anne Marie (Pomatto) and Harold O’Malley. She graduated from Southeast High School in Cherokee, Kansas.
Rose Marie married Lonnie Wydick on April 22, 1967, and they later divorced in 1990. 

She worked for the Weir Citizen Bank as a teller until marriage. She then worked at the Weir Grade School in 1979 as a Para Professional and due to health reasons, was forced to retire in April 2014. She also was the Weir City Treasurer for many years. 

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Weir until it closed. She then joined St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, Kansas, but actively attended Our Lady of Lourdes in Pittsburg, Kansas with her children and grandchildren. 

Rose Marie was known for her famous French cookies and loved to make pies for people. She enjoyed scrapbooking engagement, wedding, and anniversary announcements from people she knew from local newspapers. She has over twenty scrapbooks filled with announcements dating back to the early 1950s. She was beloved by the children and staff at Weir Grade School. She enjoyed spending time with her family and playing tournaments of the card game UNO with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Julie Drenick of Pittsburg and husband Steve, John Wydick of Seneca, Missouri, Brenda Brynds of Pittsburg, and husband Todd, Doug Wydick of Pittsburg, and wife Tish. Grandchildren Anna Lisa and Jacob Drenick, Tyler and Olivia Brynds, and Peyton and Parker Wydick of Pittsburg. Brothers Phil O’Malley of Pittsburg, Jim O’Malley and Charlie O’Malley of Scammon, Lawrence O’Malley of Independence, Kansas. Sisters Elizabeth Starns of Springfield, Missouri and Mary Sue Schiefelbein of Pittsburg, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joseph O’Malley, daughter Lisa Marie Wydick, nephew Stephen Schiefelbein, and numerous aunts and uncles. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am Monday July 18, 2016 at the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS with Fr. Chrysostom Ah Maung officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery in Scammon, KS. Rosary will be recited at 6:00pm Sunday July 17, 2016 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, KS; family will receive friends immediately following the rosary. Friends may call the funeral home after 1:00pm Sunday. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
