Norma Faith Wilson, age 89, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016 in Lawrence, KS. Norma was born July 18, 1927 in Chetopa, KS to Thomas and Jessie Evans and resided in Pittsburg, KS for the past 25 years with her beloved husband of over 68 years, William F. Wilson. Norma graduated from Pittsburg High School and Kansas State Teachers College (now Pittsburg St). She was a devout Christian and member of First Baptist Church of Pittsburg, a cherished and nurturing parent, and an inspirational teacher to hundreds of students over her long career as a public school teacher in Kansas. She taught English in Scott City, KS; Atchison, KS; and Ellinwood, KS, and established the elementary school library in Troy, KS.
In addition, she belonged to the Pittsburg Study Club, the Pittsburg Lions Club, the Southeast Kansas Retired Teachers Association, and SEK Humane Society. Throughout her life, she enjoyed reading, writing stories and poetry, and spending time with family. As well as these activities, she travelled, golfed, and volunteered with her husband. Norma blessed everyone she met with her genuine grace and sincere concern for their well being. As a wife, mother, and lifetime mentor, she will be sorely missed by all who loved her.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary Jane Crisman of Bradford, PA and Virginia Smith of Liberal, MO. She is survived by her husband Bill, four children - William F. Wilson, Jr. and wife Susan of Topeka, KS; Walter Thomas Wilson and wife Virginia of Baldwin City, KS; Rebecca Ann Maglaughlin and husband Ronald of Haysville, KS; Kristin Elizabeth Wilson of Gardner, KS; nine grandchildren - Tayler Thiel and husband Don of Andover, KS; Sara Maglaughlin-Frieman and husband James of Wichita, KS; Benjamin Maglaughlin and wife Carmen of Indianapolis, IN; Veronica Thomas of Wynne, AR; Jennifer Toland and husband Richard of Camp H.M. Smith, HI; Jeffrey Wilson and wife Cassandra of Ft. Worth, TX; John Wilson and wife Jami Jones of Lawrence, KS; Evan Wilson of Lawrence, KS; Amelia Wilson of Baldwin City, KS, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A service for Norma will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Rick Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church and/or Southeast Kansas Humane Society.
