Rev. John L. Pigg, Jr., age 61, Joplin, went home to be with his Lord on his birthday, Monday, July 25, 2016 at his home after a sudden illness.
John was born July 25, 1955 in Joplin, son of the late John L. Pigg, Sr., and Betty Jean Shaeffer Pigg of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended Joplin Schools, and then Missouri Southern University before working several years as a machinist in Joplin.
John was recently called to the ministry, and fulfilled his credential requirements through the School of Ministry/Global University in Springfield, Missouri. He was an interim minister for the Assembly of God churches in Purdy, Exeter, and the Spring River Assembly of God in Baxter Springs, Kansas. John has been the Pastor of First Assembly of God Church of Carl Junction for the past four years.
In addition to his mother, Betty Pigg of Tulsa, John is survived by his wife, Paula Stockburger Pigg whom he married in 1994; a daughter, April Wooten and husband Jimmy of Riverton, Kansas; grandchildren, Izaiah Wooten and Kala Wooten; brothers, Gary L. Pigg and Michael Tudor both of Joplin; sisters, Karen McGinthia (Jim) of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and Patricia Musgrove (Charles) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God, Carl Junction, with Pastor John Veazey and Pastor Stan Welch officiating. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Assembly of God, Carl Junction, Missouri.
