Paul Wayne Johnson, age 88, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Seneca House in Seneca, Missouri after a lengthy illness.
Paul was born August 19, 1927 in Joplin, son of the late Earl Robert Johnson and Maude Adeline Banes Johnson. He graduated from High School, an joined the United States Marine Corp to serve during World War II, he was then sent to the Naval Academy where he received his Master's Degree in Economics, and was also studying engineering. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Air Force, having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, Vietnam, and the Cold War.
He returned to Joplin in 1998, and was a faithful member and deacon of Park Plaza Christian Church. He was also a member of the Joplin Lions Club, was an instructor at MSSU in economics, was a charter and life member of the MOAA, member of the Four State Chapter of TROA/MOAA, founding member and Squadron Commander of the Joplin CAPC, member of the Joplin ROTC, and the Cadet Capt. "C" Company.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie M. Tyler Johnson who died September 6, 2015; daughter, Glenda Gibson; sister, Joyce E. Johnson; brothers, Robert, Ralph, and Jean Johnson.
Survivors include his daughters, Patricia L. Nadell of Truckee, California, Mary L. Harding of Bellingham, Washington, Barbara G. Golding of Joplin; grandchildren, Cameron Harding, Jared Harding, Jordan Nadell, Rachel Nadell, Shawn Goulding, and Cheryl Flemate.
Memorial services will be Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Plaza Christian Church with Pastor B.A. Austin officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. His ashes will be inurned at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
