(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Charles Wayne Brannon, age 69, passed away at 8:21 am, Sunday, February 5, 2023 at his home following an illness.
Charles was born January 23, 1954, in Johnson City, TN. His parents were Vester and Fannie (Whitaker) Brannon. He had lived in Joplin the past 6 years, moving from California.
He served in the US Army. He was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He was a member of Spring Grove Church, Galena, KS. He used to teach Royal Rangers while in California. He enjoyed collecting hot wheels and knives. He could play the harmonica, guitar and was a song writer and singer.
His previous marriages to Jackie Brannon and later to Helen Brannon ended in divorce. Charles then married JoAllene Clark on November 18, 1989, in San Pedro, California. She survives.
Additional survivors include 4 sons and 1 daughter, Sons are: Charles “Chip” Brannon, (Candy) Brainerd, MN, Jason Brannon, (Amber Jo), Springdale, AR, James Brannon (Madelyn) Baxter Springs, KS, and Steven Hall (Tammy), Huntington Beach, CA; Daughter is Staci Pershing (Jeffrey), Weston, WI; three brothers, Vernon Brannon, Billings, MT, Ray Brannon, Los Angeles, CA, and Tom Brannon, State of California; two sisters, Arlene Dodson, Huntsville, AL and Janie Mills, Los Angeles, CA; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Joshua Brannon and two brothers, Ernest Brannon and Gordon Brannon.
Charles was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS for cremation.
The family will Celebrate his life on February 19, 2023.
