(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Marlene Ann Murdock, age 79 of Columbus, passed away at 1:57 PM on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Mercy Hospital of Joplin, MO.
Marlene was born in Picher, OK on August 2, 1943 to the union of Oliver Laythan Green and Elsie "Jane" (Hoy) Green. She graduated from Columbus High School with the Class of 1961. She had lived in the Kansas City area, Parsons, KS, and Joplin, MO, as well as many years in Columbus.
She worked at First National Bank in Parsons as a teller, was a co-owner at Parsons Oil Company, owned and managed the Parsons Humane Society of Parsons, KS, was a funeral assistant at Murdock Funeral Home of Columbus, KS, and worked in registration at St. John's Hospital in Joplin until her retirement in 2010.
She was an avid animal lover and had several rescue dogs that she cared for. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and sewing.
Survivors include one son, Matthew Lee Harris of Columbus; one daughter, Tylor Danley (husband, Shawn) of Columbus; three grandchildren, Tannor Harris, Gunnor Murdock, and Tuff Danley; one brother, Jimmy Green (wife, Marilyn) of Columbus; one sister-in-law, Joan Green of Columbus; and two nieces, Korey Green and Meagan Skahan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Jane Green; one brother, Bill Green; husband, Charlie Bolin; husband, Chuck Fietz; husband, E.V. Harris; and husband, Larry Murdock.
Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus. Following the service, Mrs. Murdock will be entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus for cremation. In lieu of flowers, donate a bag of dog food to your animal shelter of choice.
