Lola “Kay” VanDorn Ramsey, age 80, of Lamar, Missouri, died unexpectedly Monday, April 2, 2018 at Cox Barton County Hospital.
Kay was born June 1, 1937 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Clarence Edwin and Lola Grace (Leatherman) Venable. She graduated Liberal High School in 1955 and married Richard R. VanDorn in August of that same year. She worked as a clerk for the USDA office for over 21 years. After retirement, she managed Liberal Golden Homes and was a caregiver for Mary Kay Miller. Kay was also a member of Lamar First Christian Church. Kay married Bob Ramsey in Liberal, Missouri September 4, 2010.
Kay is survived by her husband Bob Ramsey of the home; a son Michael (Christal) VanDorn, Haskell, Arkansas; a stepson David (Judy) Ramsey, Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Theresa (Jeff) Hewitt, Nevada, Missouri and Marilyn and Heath Schooling, Springdale, Arkansas; step-daughters, Vicky Deering, Smithville, Missouri, Sandy (John) Sutton, Leonardtown, Maryland, Nanette Shoemaker, Platt City, Missouri; Angela (Patrick) Lemieux, Kansas City, Missouri, and Vicky (Carl) Volkman, Pineville, Missouri. Two brothers, Gene (Dorothy) Venable, Stockton, Missouri, and Gary (Janet) Venable, Liberty, Missouri; two sisters, Linda (Ross) Gonzales, Liberty, Missouri, and Brenda (Marvin) Cornine, Blackwater, Missouri; grandchildren, Justin (Tara Meyer) Sprouls, Annie Combs, Shelby Carnes, Joshua VanDorn, Kaleb VanDorn Kyle VanDorn; many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband Richard VanDorn and a nephew, Todd Cornine.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Lamar First Christian Church with burial following in Liberal City Cemetery.
