Benjamin Orlan Cooley, 89, a former long term resident of Neosho, went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2014 with his family by his side in Overland Park, Kansas.
He was born on March 29, 1925 in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Elva Engle Cooley. Orlan graduated from Chapman High School working on the family farm outside of Abilene and went on to Kansas State University to receive his college degree. Orlan was blessed to be married to two wonderful women in his lifetime.
He was married to the late Elizabeth Thomason in 1952 and they lived in the Neosho area until her death in 1984. Orlan and the late Janis Shonkwiler, who also lost her first husband to cancer, remarried and were together for nearly twenty-five years before her death in 2013. Orlan greatly loved his family.
