John Walter Martens, age 63 of Carl Junction, MO, passed away at 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at his home.
Born October 27, 1950 at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE, he was the son of the late Arthur A. Martens and Esther May Perry Martens and lived in the Joplin area most his lifetime. John was a 1969 graduate of Webb City High School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He also attended MSSU. For 27 years, he was a fitter and welder for Thermal Engineering. John loved golfing, fishing and all sports.
On January 8, 1989 he married Debbie A. Rocklein at Miami, OK. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Shauna Kile and husband Clinton of Carterville, MO; a brother, Henry Martens and wife Debbie of Carl Junction; two sisters, Shirley Ann Martens of Neosho, MO, Martha Kelly of Lufkin, TX; three grandchildren, McKenzie, Malayna and Kaydence; a stepmother, Rosalea Martens of Webb City; a stepbrother, Gary Sidenstricker of Webb City; and a stepsister, Marcia Sidenstricker of Vinita, OK.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Private services will be held at a later date.
The family requests no plants or flowers, please. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Foundation for Suicide, in care of Parker Mortuary.
