Richard Dean Ebert, age 81, Joplin, passed away at 7:35 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014.
Richard was born February 3, 1933 in Ottawa County, Oklahoma to the late Rudolph A. Ebert and Sadie Snyder Ebert and had lived in Joplin most of his life.
He worked as an insurance adjuster for over 23 years, retiring in 1988. He had also worked for the Missouri State Highway Department for nine years. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was commissioned as Captain and served in the US Army Reserves until 1968.
Richard was a charter member, Deacon and building committee chairman of North Main Street Baptist Church. He sang in various gospel groups for over three decades, most recently, the Revelations. He was currently a member of Forest Park Baptist Church.
He married Norma Whaley on August 18, 1953 in Joplin. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include three children, Richard L. Ebert, Joplin, Kristi K. Doran and her husband, Brian, Joplin, Jeff T. Ebert and his wife, Diane, Joplin; six grandchildren; four step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a brother; a sister and three nephews.
Services are planned for Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel. Rev. John Swadley and Rev. John Karriman will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Doran, Mike Greninger, Fred Moffett, Ashton Ebert, Tristen Ebert and Parker Arnall. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 p.m. Sunday at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Forest Park Baptist Church Building Fund.
