David Talkington

David Wesley Talkington, age 70, Joplin, MO, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at his home.

David was born October 10, 1943 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, son of the late Harvey M. Talkington and Ota Mae Hatfield Talkington. He attended school in Clarksburg, and graduated from W.I. High School in Clarksburg. He joined the United States Navy and served for nearly 9 years during the Vietnam Conflict.

He married Mary E. Williams of Leavenworth, KS on November 18, 1972. The couple made their home in Leavenworth, KS where he worked as a computer programmer with the Department of Defense until his retirement.

David was a member of the Masonic Lodge #6, A.F.& A.M. in Clarksburg, and the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Leavenworth, Kansas.

In addition to his wife of 41 years, Mary, David is survived by a son, Jeffrey D. Talkington and wife Julie of Chicago, Illinois; daughters, Amber L. Cameron of Omaha, Nebraska, and Elizabeth A. Talkington of Joplin, Missouri; grandchildren, Greyson, Quinn, Reid, Naomi, Adriana, and Tyler.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery with full military honors. Chaplain Jack Divine will be officiating. The family will receive visitors Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Narthex at First Christian Church, 130 N 6th St, Leavenworth, KS 66048. The procession to the Ft Leavenworth Cemetery will depart the church at 10:15 a.m.

The family requests that Memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org ) in lieu of flowers.
