Harvey Oller

Harvey Donald Oller departed this life for his eternal home on July 7, 2014.

Harvey ‘Don’ Oller, born July 19, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Harvey Dewey Oller and Della Ann Connit Oller. When he was a small child, his parents moved to Springfield, Missouri. Don’s father passed away when he was 15 years old. His mother moved the family to Dallas County. Don attended the local high school at Charity, Missouri. After school, Don moved to Springfield to take a job with Frisco Railroad. He and Irene Bennett were married on May 7, 1944. Three months later, he was called into service. He served in the Philippines during World War II and later in Korea. He was discharged in 1946 to return to his job at Frisco. Later he worked for Hoffman-Allen Corp before taking a managerial position with Barnett-Levy Co of Memphis. The family moved to Humboldt, Tennessee. He was transferred to Carthage, Missouri. Barnett-Levy sold out and Don went to work for Pearl Brothers in Joplin, where he retired in 1987.

Don is a member of the VFW and Exchange Club in Humboldt, Tennessee. He is a member of Forest Park Baptist Church.

He married Irene Bennett on May 7, 1944 at First Presbyterian Church in Springfield. They had three children. A son, Dewey Glenn, preceded him in death in 1947. Survivors include his son, Gary W. Oller and his wife, Cindy, Springfield; a daughter, Donita Kaye Hadley and her husband, Phil, Belton, Missouri; six grandchildren, Lisa (Oller) deLeon and her husband, Chris, Springfield, Wes Oller and his wife, Vanessa, Springfield, Kristine (Hadley) Ohlson, Raymore, Missouri, Nick Hadley and his wife, Heather, Belton, Kyra (Hadley) Rule and her husband, John, Greenwood, Missouri, Kimberly (Hadley) Smith and her husband, Aaron, Ash Grove, Missouri; and nine great grandchildren, Riley deLeon, Regan deLeon, Kaylee Ohlson, Connor Ohlson, Melissa Hadley, Payton Hadley, Colt Rule, Ashlynn Oller and Colton Oller.

Graveside services are planned for Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery, Springfield. Rev. Jamie Tickel will officiate. Full military honors will be provided at the cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Wounded Warrior Project in care of the mortuary.
