David Eugene Wilson, Age 68, Carterville, MO, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, following a sudden illness.
David was born on August 14, 1945 in Carterville, MO, the son of Arthur B. Wilson and Susie Berneice Conness. He was a lifetime resident of the Carterville and Webb City area and worked at Leggett & Platt for 40 years, retiring in 2012. David proudly served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the Carterville Fire Department for forty-one years and he enjoyed collecting model trains and memorbilia. He was a member of the Joplin Church Alive and he was an ordained minister. He married Thelma Louise Madewell on October 15, 1965 and they would have celebrated their 49th anniversary this year.
David is survived by his wife, Thelma, two sons, Rev. Danny and Donna Wilson, Carterville, MO, and Michael and LeAnn Wilson, Oronogo, MO; one daughter, Renee Wilson, Carterville, MO; one grandson, Brent Wilson; two granddaughters, Kayla Wilson, and Quinn Pittsley; one brother, Howard “LeRoy” & Linda Wilson, Oronogo, MO; five sisters, Ruby Petty, Carthage, MO, Kitty & John Riley, Joplin, MO, Wanda Fogarty, Webb City, MO, Betty Welch, Webb City, MO, and Judy Payne, Garfield, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Vickie, and two brothers, Jerry and Steve.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Joplin Church Alive. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home chapel. Memorial Contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested for the Carterville Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City.
