Ruthalene Butler

(From Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home)

Ruthalene Butler, 92, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 after a long illness.

She was born on March 6, 1922 in Commerce, Oklahoma. At the age of three, her family moved to Neck City, Missouri. Ruthalene married Fred Butler in 1940 and they moved to Anaheim, California. During WWII she worked in an aircraft factory building engines for the B52 bombers. After the war, the family moved to Costa Mesa, California where Ruth kept house while Fred and his brothers ran Butler Brother’s Meat Market. In 1955 they moved to Winchester, California and Ruth worked for J.C. Penney in Hemet. The happy couple moved to a lovely farm north of Webb City, Missouri in 1971. Ruthalene loved the farm life, including her animals and canning her own foods. She was an avid painter and gave many wonderful homemade gifts to friends and family. She was active with TOPS for over twenty years. Following the death of her husband, she moved into a series of retirement homes, with her final residence at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin, Missouri.

Ruthalene is survived by one son, Mike Butler and his wife Jerrie, Sarcoxie, MO; a daughter-in-law, Denise Butler, Hemet, CA; a sister, Jessie Sargent and her husband Dwight, Carthage, MO; five grandchildren, Shawnda Butler, Carterville, MO, Robert Butler, Jacksonville, CA, Staci Butler, Georgetown, CA, Heather Williams, Baxter Springs, KS, and Michelle Butler, Sarcoxie, MO; eleven great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
