Norma Dean Silvey Kohler, age 75 of Joplin, passed away at 5:08 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014 at her home.
Born in Neck City, MO, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Nina Petefish Silvey and had lived in the area her lifetime. She graduated from Alba High School and worked 20 years for Safeway Bakery. Norma was a Christian. She and her husband belonged to Spring River Boat & Ski Club for over 20 years.
If you wanted to find Norma, she was always at the mall shopping for her children and grandchildren, but rarely for herself. Her daughters were here best friends and her grandchildren were like her own. She was a very selfless person and will be dearly missed.
Her husband of 57 years, Bill Gene Kohler, preceded her in death on October 19, 2012. She was also preceded by two sisters, Jean Pierce and Luella Ferris; and a brother, Buford Silvey.
Survivors include four daughters, Kim Marston of Joplin, Tammy Vaughn and husband Todd of Joplin, Cassandra Grant and husband Terry of Miami, OK, Becky Spencer and husband Kelly of Joplin; seven grandchildren, Joel Marston, Justin Spencer, Cody Spencer, Jennifer Vaughn Huff and husband Sam, Tyler Vaughn, Hunter Grant and Mylela Grant; six great-grandchildren, Mason Marston, Kiley Spencer, Emily Spencer, Kaden Huff, Bridger Marston and Gavin Huff; siblings Helen and Don Johnston, Phyllis Sanders, Eileen and Tom Toepfer, Janie Silvey and Carol Jelnick.
A celebration of life service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Chapel with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends preceding the service at 2:30 p.m.
