Gary Cambers

Gary L. Cambers, 83, of Liberal, Missouri died at 3:59 A.M. Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Cox-Barton County Memorial Hospital at Lamar, Missouri of a sudden illness.

Mr. Cambers was born October 23, 1940 in Barton County, Missouri, rural Arcadia, the son of Arthur Loraine and Lena Opal Spurling Cambers. Gary was a retired coal miner who lived in the Arcadia area most of his life. He was raised in Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School in the Class of 1958. 







He worked for Happy Curless Implement in Liberal and later for Mackie-Clemons Coal Company from 1968 to 1997 until he retired. He was a member of the Liberal Masonic Lodge and the United Mine Workers of America. Survivors include a son, Douglas Cambers of Deepwater, Missouri, three daughters, Debbie Cambers of Arma, Cathy Wheeler of Pittsburg, and Lisa Underwood of Farmington, Missouri, one brother, Bill Cambers of Lebanon, Missouri, one sister, Helen Green of Chanute, Kansas, ten grandchildren, and thirteen- great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Cambers.








Mr. Cambers has been cremated according to his wishes. Memorial services will be at 11 A.M. Monday, December 4, 2023 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma, Kansas with Pastor Jim Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. Monday at the Bedene Chapel prior to the memorial services. Burial of the cremains will follow the services Monday at the Sheffield Cemetery near Arcadia, Kansas. 

The family suggest memorials to the Girard American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.

  1. I’m so very sad to hear we lost Gary. He was one of my favorite human beings and I always looked forward to seeing him at our alumni banquets. I’m thankful to have known Gary for almost 8 decades, to attend school with him and to graduate from Arcadia HS in his class. My condolences to his family and friends. Marilou Garton Bork
