Robert W. Baker Jr., age 86, Joplin, Mo. passed away at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin. Bob was born June 2, 1930 in Fayette, Mo. He received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Pittsburg State University. Bob served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the Army, he went to work for Civil Service as an Educational Specialist,
Training Doctors in trauma for Ft. Bliss Army Base in El Paso, Texas. He spent over 30 years with Civil Service. Bob was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Joplin, and had a great love for music.
Bob married Wilma Furr Jan. 28, 1951 in Joplin and she survives. Additional survivors include a son, Robert W. Baker III and wife Cathy, Austin, Texas,, one daughter, Kimberly Baker Hoosier and husband David, Joplin, one brother, Henry Baker and wife Betty, Humble, Texas., five grandchildren; Robert William Baker IV, David Hoosier, Breanna Hoosier, Rebecca Hoosier and Brooklyn Hoosier, two great grandchildren and one on the way.
Bob’ wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 13th. at the Fellowship Baptist Church with Pastors Rob Signs and Rex Wakefield officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, or Martin Luther Christian School. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
