Dennis Bounds

Dennis K. Bounds, age 63, of Pittsburg, passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon, October 6, 2022 at home of natural causes.

Dennis was born April 9, 1959 at Andrews Air Force Base, Prince George’s County, Maryland. His parents were Gerald and Lucy (Gray) Bounds. Dennis had lived in Pittsburg, Kansas for 24 years.

Dennis obtained his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Central Missouri State University in 1992. Dennis worked for the Pittsburg State University Police Department beginning in 1993, retiring in 2014. He also served as a member of the Tri-State Major Case Squad. Prior to that, he served as a patrolman, Corporal, and detective for the Joplin, MO. Police Department.

Dennis’ hobbies included hunting, fishing, painting, and primitive bow and arrow making. If you could make an arrowhead or knife out of it, Dennis could do it. He attended Trinity Baptist Church, Pittsburg, KS.

Dennis was united in marriage to Mikell Montgomery in Joplin, MO, on May 19, 1984. To this union were born Connor and Sydney Bounds. Dennis married Lani Tabera in Thayer, MO on June 23, 2001.

Survivors include Lani Bounds, of the home; parents, Gerald and Lucy Bounds, Heber Springs, AR; daughter, Sydney Parsons (Chris), of Charlotte, NC; son, Connor Bounds (Emily) of Salina, KS; and three granddaughters, Rachel, Melody, and Elena Bounds, of Salina, KS; a sister, Brenda Blankenship, of Lonoke, AR; and a brother, David Bounds, of Lonoke, AR; and other extended family.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, October 10, at Derfelt Funeral Home – Galena, KS. Pastor Jordan Hodges officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, October 9, 2022, at the funeral home.
