Johnie Wadleigh

Johnie Kathalyn Wadleigh passed away on October 12, 2022 in Plano, Texas after a long illness.

Johnie K. Huie was born June 20, 1926 in Formosa, AR. To John Roscoe Huie and Ethrel (Bowling) Huie. 

She married George Richard (Dick) Wadleigh on March 15, 1947 and he preceded her in death on September 13, 2004. She was also preceded by her father, John Roscoe Huie, her mother, Ethrel Huie Needham, her step-father, George Needham and her brother, Lyle Huie.








For many years Johnie was a Teletype Operator for Western Union working in Denver, CO, Spokane, WA, Carthage and Joplin, MO. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Miami, OK joining the church in 1965. After moving to Texas in 2007 to be near her son Kevin and his family, she attended the First Presbyterian Church of McKinney, TX.

The Miami Rotary Club made Johnie a Paul Harris Fellow on December 3, 1985 for her long involvement with the club. Johnie also had Handy Hints published in their Syndicated Calendar and Almanac for ten consecutive years. In 1984 her first cookbook “Favorite Recipes from Johnie’s Kitchen” was published followed by volume two in 1998.








She is survived by her son, Dr. Kevin R. Wadleigh and his wife Laurie of Plano, TX, grandson John Wadleigh of Richardson, TX, and granddaughter Leslie Ellingson and her husband Josh, and great-grandchildren Alexis, Landon and Zoe Ellingson of Chandler, AZ. Other family members include a favorite cousin Suzanne Burch of Sikeston, MO.

Johnie specified that she wanted only a graveside service which will be scheduled at a future time at Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City, Missouri.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Miami, OK or a charity of the donor’s choice.
