(From Knell Mortuary)Ronald P. Ferguson entered eternal life on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the Mt. Vernon Veterans Home from complications of Parkinson’s. He was born October 4, 1949, to Richard and Twila (Perrin) Ferguson. He attended Carthage schools and was a member of the Carthage High School Class of 1967. He graduated from Missouri Southern State College with a degree in Political Science.
Ron was a proud Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War stationed in Dong Tam, Vietnam. One of his proudest moments was being a member of the Honor Flight of the Ozarks to the Nation’s capital in 2018.
Surviving Ron are his wife, Diann, whom he married January 4, 1977, in a blinding blizzard; his sons, Joe (Meagan) Ferguson of Boxborough, Massachusetts, and Blake (Danielle) Ferguson of Webb City, Missouri; grandchildren, Fallon, Charli, Kale, Kai, Oisin, and Aisling; his sisters, Julie (Mel) Anderson, and Mary K. (Kenny) Ross; along with several beloved nieces and nephews.
Ron had several occupations during his lifetime beginning with car hop at Southside Drive-In at age 10. He later taught school and was a police officer for the City of Carthage. In his later years, he was a school bus driver for Carthage R-9, driving a bus for his beloved Early Childhood students who loved “Mr. Ron”.
Ron loved his family and friends and never met a stranger. He will be remembered for his kindness and compassion for others and his love for God and country.
Memorial services will be held 2 pm, Friday, October 7, 2022 at Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage, where he served the Alter for years. Inurnment will follow at the Grace Church Columbarium.
