Russell “Russ” J. Whittington, 56, of Joplin, departed this life on January 4, 2017. He was born on May 6, 1960, in Chicago, Il., the son of the late Barnard and Patricia (Bagley) Whittington.
Russ moved to Joplin about 25 years ago from Denver, Co. He worked as self employed siding applicator, and was very involved in Narcotics Anonymous for over fifteen years.
He married Amy Phelps on December 31, 1997 in Joplin, and she survives. His is also survived by his three daughter’s, Hope Wessel of Lakewood, Co., Catherine Sciacca of Ottowa, Ks., Ashten Vaughn and her husband Caleb of Duenweg, Mo.; his son Jonathen Phelps of Grove, Ok. His four grandchildren, a sister, Kathy Cervantes of Joplin, three brothers, George Whitttington of Steamboat Springs, Co., David Whittington of Davenport, Iw., Steve Whittington, of the state of North Carolina.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Life Point Church, near Duenweg. Rex Robertson, Minister will officiate.
The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Narcotics Anonymous.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
