Dale Dungan

Dale Dungan 93, of Columbus, KS died 8:43pm Monday March 28, 2016 at the Silver Creek Assisted Living Center in Joplin, MO following an illness. 
 
Dale was born August 30, 1922 in Mindenmines, MO the son of Arnie John and Beatrice Ursula (Sadler) Dungan. Dale was a lifelong resident of the area and attended area schools. Dale was a Veteran of the Army Air Corps serving his country during WWII. He worked on the Ground  Crew and traveled on the U.S.S. George M. Randall while in the service.
 
On November 8, 1944 Dale married Zelma Louise Keith in Macon, GA; she preceded him in death on October 1, 2002. After the service Dale worked in many trades that included a miner for Eagle Picher; broke horses; drove a lime truck for Paul Coones; worked as a welder for Lester Roark and most notably the Gas Company as a welder from 1959-1983. Dale enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, watching cable T.V., mowing and just tinkering around the yard. He loved his wife and 5 daughters.
 
Survivors include his children Dixie Woods and husband Floyd of Pittsburg, KS, Brenda Dungan of San Francisco, CA, Janice Rennie and husband Kregg of Columbus, KS, Terri Dungan of Reno, NV and Sheila Gates and husband Tony of Joplin, MO; grandchildren Julie Mahnken, Jana Jones, Kylie Knight and Daniel Rennie; great-grandchildren Seth, Sage and Shay Mahnken as well as John Paul, Harrison and Truman Jones and a brother-in-law George Defebaugh of Shawnee Mission, KS. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, parents, infant son Dennis Dungan, infant sister Laura Mae Dungan and a sister Elsie Defebaugh.
  
Graveside Services will be 11:00am Friday April 1, 2016 at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Rural Cherokee County with Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Family will receive friends from 7-8:00 pm Thursday March 31, 2016 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS; friends may call the funeral home after 12:00pm Thursday. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 611 S.
