Wilburn ‘Gary’ Coberley, 72, Springdale, Arkansas, died March 5, 2016 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, following a sudden illness.
Gary was born May 27, 1943 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Wilburn J. and Lova A. (Whaley) Coburn. He graduated from Neosho High School in 1960 and then attended Harding University at Searcy, Arkansas. While in high school, Gary was an avid basketball player and was known as ‘Spider’; it was a game he loved to play and continued to play for fun. In 1966, he moved to Colorado from Missouri and in 1976, moved to Green River, Wyoming, where he lived for 30 years. He worked as an industrial mechanic at Jim Bridger Power Plant and retired in 2000 and returned to Missouri in 2005. He was a dedicated member of the LDS church and served as a Ward Clerk in Springdale, Arkansas.
He is survived by four children, Robin Mahaffey and husband, Dan of Green River, Wyoming; Sabra Coberley of Midland, Texas; Leah Kenison and husband, Mike of Green River, Wyoming and Mike Coberley of Scottsdale, Arizona; two brothers, Dale Coberley and wife, Laura of Cedarville, Arkansas and Bob Coberley and wife, Andrea of Westland, Michigan; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 2:30 pm at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Bishop David Aferton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery, south of Neosho. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:30 until service time at the funeral home.
