Gorden W. Turner, 85, passed away at his home, March 27, 2016. Gorden was born September 23, 1930 at his home in Opossum Creek near Jasper, MO. He was the son of Glenn and Lava (Spry) Turner. Gorden was a lifetime Carthage resident and was a graduate of Carthage High School class of 1948, where he met the love of his life, Gloria Franklin. They were married October 7, 1949 at the First Baptist Church in Carthage and had 66 wonderful years together. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church for many years.
Gorden started his career as an accountant at Steadley Manufacturing and retired from H.E. Williams Corporation as Vice President of Finance in 1992. Gorden was the most wonderful Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa a family could ask for.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, of the home; one daughter, Cindy Huntley and husband, Doug, of Carthage; grandchildren Matt and wife, Sarah, Ryan and wife, Maranda and his only granddaughter Kristen Norbury and husband Paul all from Carthage. Also surviving is one son, Larry Turner and wife, Beverly, of Branson, grandsons Adam and wife, Jennifer, of Monroe, GA; Andy and wife, Heather, of Carl Junction, MO and Kyle and wife, Amy, of Willard, MO; a brother-in-law, Ron Franklin and wife, Cheryl, of Carthage, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Glenn Watson Turner and Gene Lewis Turner.
Visitation will be held on, Tuesday, March 29th, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 30th at 2:00 p.m. followed by private family burial. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Carthage Firefighter’s Benefit Association in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
