Doctor Leonard Gaskin (Doc) age 84 of Joplin, Missouri, passed on March 25, 2016 in his home.
Doc was born on September 24, 1931 in Seneca, Missouri, son of the late Sam Tuelly Gaskin and Rosie Beaver Gaskin. Doc received his G.E.D. in Pomona, California. He retired from Lockheed Martin Aircraft (Skunk Works) after 28 years.
Doc married Betty Joan Barlow in Carthage, Missouri on September 24, 1954. There were married for 60 years before Betty passed in August of 2014.
Doc was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army. Doc went into active duty at Camp Crowder in Neosho from July 1952 to June, 1954 as a Sergeant. He took pride in being a cook for the higher ranking officers in Paris, France.
Doc was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in San Fernando, California and then transferred to Elks Lodge, #501 of Joplin for a total of 38 years. He was also a lifetime member of NAAV (National Association of Atomic Veterans).
Survivors in life are brother, John Gaskin of Sun City, California; son, Donald L. Gaskin of Sacramento, California; daughter, Diana L. Gaskin Willard with her husband, Donnie of Duquesne; grandsons, David Willard of Duquesne and Eric Willard and wife, Tiffany of Texas, with great granddaughter, Lillian Weber, estranged great granddaughter, Kaylee Triplett of Carl Junction.
Memorial Services (Celebration of Life) will be at Elk's Lodge, 1802 W. 26th St, Joplin, from 4-6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Elk's Lodge Christmas Baskets, in memory of Doc.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
