Raymon Franklin Thomas, Sr. age 75 of Joplin, went to his heavenly home on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Freeman Hospital following a short illness.
Raymon was born April 30, 1940 to the late J L Thomas Sr. and Ogretha Thomas in Joplin. After graduating, Raymon joined the United States Marine Corps where he faithfully served 20 years, retiring in 1979. He returned to Joplin where he spent his remaining years. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Joplin.
On November 26, 1960, Raymon married Ella Thomas; she preceded him in death on February 11, 2001, as well as his youngest daughter, Stephanie Fields 4 months later in 2001.
Surviving family members include his oldest daughter Jacqueline Gooden and her husband Travis of Goodyear, Arizona; his son, Raymon F. Thomas, Jr. and his wife Teri of Fredericksburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Whitney Washington and her husband Kelvin of Virginia, Danielle Wolf and her husband Chris also from Virginia; Chandler Thomas and Camryn Thomas-Sly from Arizona; and nine great-grandchildren. Raymon also leaves behind his friend in life Marquilla Taylor of Joplin and brothers J L Thomas Jr, Gary Thomas and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St. Phillips Episcopalian Church in Joplin at 2:00 p.m. Friday March 28. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
