Natha De’Von Anderson, age 97, passed away at 7:25 pm, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Galena Nursing Center, Galena KS following an illness.
Mrs Anderson was born December 22, 1918 in Bonner Springs, KS. Her parents were William Elsworth and Hazel (Hawk) Honeywell. She was a lifelong resident of Galena.
She graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1937. She had worked as a clerk and the Cherokee County Courthouse, Columbus, KS. She had also worked as a teller in a bank, a cook at the Galena school, and had managed the Galena Dairy Queen.
She attended Journey Church, Joplin, MO. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Galena Womans Club, and was a lifetime member of the Galena museum and was a lifetime Bulldog Booster. She also volunteered for several community programs including Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed quilting, cake decorating, flower arranging, gardening, and craft work.
She was first married to John Clary on March 27, 1941. He passed away October 16, 1944. In September 1946, she married Albert Anderson. They divorced in May, 1961. She was also a preceded in death by one daughter, Starlet Westmoreland, her brother, John D Honeywell, and two sisters, Mary Jo Kitch, and Mildred Gant.
Surviving is one son, Gilbert Clary (wife, Linda), Springfield, MO; two daughters, Myonza Kennedy, Shell Knob, MO and Emmajo Henderson,(husband, Stan), Galena, KS; 7 grandchildren, John Westmoreland, Jennifer Orr, Michelle Sapp, Melissa Cox, Austin Henderson, Jeremy Henderson, and Rachelle Smith; 14 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS. Pastor Matt Derfelt will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bill Harding Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
