George E. Phelps, Jr., 80, Dublin, Ohio, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016 in Dublin. George E. Phelps, Jr., was born September 6, 1935 in Carthage, a son of the late George E. Phelps and Elizabeth O’Keefe Phelps. He received his BS and BA from Rice University and an MBA from Washington University, St. Louis. He enjoyed a successful 35-year career with IBM in Dallas, receiving many awards and honors. He was an avid golfer, hunter and dedicated genealogist, studying the Phelps/O’Keefe families. George was a man of integrity and a great role model of personal and professional success. He will be missed for his intelligence, curiosity, patience, kindness and humor.
George is survived by his college sweetheart and love of his life, Helen (Sally) Phelps; children, Kevin Phelps, Michael Phelps, Kate Phelps (David) Fischer and Laura Phelps (Lee) Shaw; grandchildren, Samantha Fischer, Emma Phelps, John Henry Phelps, Nicholas Phelps, Olivia Shaw, James Fischer and Will Shaw; brother, John (Pat) and Carolyn Phelps, nieces, Carrie Phelps and Allison Phelps (Chris) Holman; nephew, Bill (Lora) Phelps.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 23 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with interment following in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
