Norma Jean Hill, 86, Carthage, MO, passed away Sunday morning, March 13, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO. Norma Jean Burt was born March 2, 1930 in Carthage, MO to the late Leslie Jacob Burt and Myrtle Reatha (Hatfield) Burt. She was a graduate of Carthage High School, Class of 1948. Norma married Howard Francis Hill on May 20, 1948 in Jasper, MO; he preceded her in death on November 23, 2000. She worked as a homemaker and a librarian in Carthage. Norma was involved with the Jasper County Records Center, and Quilts for Babies. She attended Webb City Church of God for the past 50 years. She was known as “Granny” by many young and old alike.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Ann Beckett (husband Bruce), Carthage and Susan Jane Pinkley (husband Bob), Carthage; one son, Burt Alan Hill (wife Susan), Seymour, TN; one brother, Gordon Burt, Martin, TN; two sisters, Barb Sunderland (husband Dick), Carthage, and Frances Heiskell (husband Frank), Lockwood, MO; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Lois Hoenshell, one brother, Roger Burt, and a baby boy, Gary Francis Hill.
Visitation will be held 6:00-7:00 p.m., Wed., March 16, 2016 at Knell Mortuary. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thurs., March 17, 2016 at the Nazarene Church, Carthage, MO. Brother Danny Adams will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Diabetes Foundation or Africa Missions and Beyond in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W. Chestnut, Carthage, MO 64836.
